Custodial Deaths

16th July,
Do you know what day it is?
16th July 1942, its the beginning of the mass arrest of Jews towards Holocaust
This 16th July is not about the Jews,
It's a day to remember the dead

16th July,
Do you know what day it is?
16th July 1982 - Mahathir Mohamad became the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia
This 16th July is not about him
It's a day to remember the dead

16th July
Do you know what day it is?
It's a day we mourn as shameful Malaysian on how our institutions let us down
It's a day a to remember the dead

Who is dead you might ask?
Cheong Fook Meng, Sugumaran, Mohd.Ropi, Chew Shiang Giap, Ragu
You don't know them? How about this name?
Teoh Beng Hock? Sure that rings a bell !
Nearly 100 scores of those died in custody, Teoh Beng Hock is just a statistic, right
Try telling his 4 year old sons, your father is just a statistic
Try telling Beng Hock's fiance who 5 years ago dreamt to be with him in the wedding bed but saw him in the bed of graves
Just try telling them...
That he is just a statistic!

Any body who goes into custody, does not deserve to die like a cornered rat
He may be innocent or guilty to the highest degree
That is for the law to decide, Not for the men in blue
Justice? that died in Malaysia, when the man in the badge battered the detainee to death

16th July
Do you know what day it is?
It's a day to remember the dead.... in custody that is
